Thailand moving up in the cricket world

Thailand women’s cricket team excelled during the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifier in Ireland at the end of July. Although they did not win the tournament, the girls won three of their five matches. Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who played each other in the final, were the only other teams to perform better.

In the opening game, Thailand lost to Pakistan by 69 runs, but the Thai girls made Pakistan work hard for their total of 145 for 6 after 20 overs.

Thailand’s first victory in the tournament, and their first victory in a major ICC tournament, came in their second match against the Netherlands, winning by six runs.

The Thai ladies failed to make the semi finals after Zimbabwe beat them by 29 runs. That defeat was not the end of the tournament as they took part in a Shield competition alongside Zimbabwe, Canada and Japan.

Thailand beat Canada by 13 runs, and the girls gained revenge over Zimbabwe winning the Shield final by 25 runs.

The victory in the Shield final moved the Thai ladies up to 12th place in the world cricket standings, reported the Pattaya Mail
