Thailand is placing a big bet that the growth of global wellness tourism will have a positive impact on inbound traveler numbers in the coming years. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently announced its latest campaign to help develop wellness and health based tourism within the country’s borders: “Amazing Thailand Health and Wellness Tourism New Chapters New Experience”.
Unveiled by Apichai Chatchalermkit, the Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business, the project aims to improve the potential for Thai products and services to stand out in the competitive global market for wellness products and travel options. To get the effort off the ground, TAT approached business owners and entrepreneurs in the tourism industry to propose new tourism routes that would highlight “meaningful wellness” in the hopes that it would help create broader appeal among the targeted tourist groups.
To showcase what that could look like, the organization hosted a media and influencer “fam” trip with a selection of its “global media allies, wellness bloggers and influencers” from around the world to experience one of the first newly designed travel concepts, titled “Meaningful Wellness.”
A route through Saraburi province, a part of the Gesture of Balance program crafted by Udachi Co. Ltd., was chosen for the trip, and included wellness bloggers and influencers from the USA and Singapore, as well as Chinese internet star Qiu Enyu and singer Mr. Zhou Hongyu.
The excursion encompassed luxurious wellness treatments and mindfulness activities at a five-star resort nestled in the Khao Phra Phuttabat Noi valley. The goal was for participants to enhance their health and mindfulness in a natural setting through a variety of treatments and massages, both Thai and European in style. Food wise, they ate a variety of healthy dishes to help boost their mental and physical health.
The agency said it was confident that the achievements of the new initiative will help usher in significant changes for Thailand’s products and services, fostering connections with the wellness tourism industry.
