Thailand wins SEA Games medal count as closing ceremonies wrap (Video)

The 27th Southeast Asian Games closed out with an energetic stadium show in Nay Pyi Daw, Myanmar last night, and Team Thailand is walking away with a chest full of gold.

With 107 gold medals earned, Thai champions outperformed 10 other neighboring nations. Host nation Myanmar was a distant second with 86 gold medals and Vietnam earned 73.

“They worked hard and deserved their great results,” said Sakol Wannapong of the Sports Authority of Thailand. “It is a great present for all Thais when the country is hit by political problems.”

Near the conclusion of last night’s closing ceremonies, a Singaporean flag was raised to signify its selection as host for the next games in 2015.

Thailand was the overall champion 11 times before since the first games in 1959, Bangkok Post reported.
