Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a commitment to “boost all-out cooperation” with Thailand in political, economic, trade, cultural and scientific grounds on Wednesday.
As part of the new relationship Thailand will begin supplying Iran with more basic commodities and staples like rice,sugar and tires.
“Thailand can be an assured and safe source for supplying some essential goods and basic commodities for Iran,” Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mehdi Qazanfari said in Tehran on Wednesday after meeting with Thai Prime Minister Office’s Minister Niwatthamrong Bunsongphaisan.
“Thailand has suggested Iran to export technical and engineering services in regards to production of Halal food to Bangkok,” he said. “Iran’s private sector can invest in Thailand’s food industry which will benefit both countries.”
“Thailand also seeks to import chemical industrial, and minerals products such as steel products from Iran,” Qazanfari concluded.
According to Iran Customs Administration, the two countries trade volume stood at 324 million dollars in 2012. Iran’s exports accounted for just 18 million dollars of the mentioned amount.
