The tour bus traveling between Thailand and Cambodia plunged into the ravine near the border yesterday, killing 16 people at the scene.
The bus, which was taking Cambodian tourists home to Phnom Penh, slid off the road about three kilometers past the border checkpoint and flipped.
The tour group had just returned from a shopping and sightseeing trip at a market in Sisaket province.
Twenty-three others who survived the crash are seriously injured. They are being treated in hospitals on the Thai side of the border.
“This area is quite dangerous. Motorists who travel through the area should exercise extreme caution,” Police Lt.Col. Setthapat, who works at the Si Saket border checkpoint, said.
The officer added that there was another bus crash in the same area earlier this year, which killed the deputy commander of the Cambodian Fourth Region Army and his assistant, Khaosod English reported.
