Thailand increased it’s golden haul by three more medals yesterday, including an unprecedented golf win.
In the traditional takraw competition, Thailand brushed aside both South Korea and Myanmar in 2-0 wins.
But it was in golf where the women’s team brought home the gold for the first time in Asian Games history for the kingdom.
With a first-week bowling win, Thailand’s golden tally climbs to four medals, with two silvers and 13 bronzes.
Supamas Sangchan, Budsabakorn Sukapan and Benyapa Niphatsophon worked together to end what would have been South Korea’s third sweep of golfing medals.
“We were amazed at the aggressiveness of the (Thai) team,” South Korean golfer Park Gyeol told Reuters. “It was really cool.”
Park won the individual gold for golf, with Budsabakorn and Supamas winning the silver and bronze, respectively.
