Thai women being trafficked to the Maldives as sex workers

A Thai hotelier is warning Thai women about the possibility of being lured into prostitution in the Maldives.

The warning was issued by a Thai hotel executive who stated that sex trafficking gangs exploit Thai women by promising them high salaries before forcing them into sexual servitude. “I feel sad to learn that such practices still exist,”  Atcharaphan Nuannuam, assistant manager of Centara Hotels and Resorts, said.

The Maldives ordered more than 1,000 luxury resorts to close down their spas after receiving complaints that there were sexual services being offered within them. Some women visit the Maldives pretending to be tourists but work as prostitutes in secret, while some women were tricked into working as sex workers, reports the Bangkok Post.
