Thai woman still missing in quake-ravaged Turkey: embassy

One Thai woman remains missing a week after a devastating earthquake killed tens of thousands in Turkey and Syria.

Days after a Thai woman was confirmed to have died in the massive quake, Thailand’s embassy in Ankara, Turkey, said a woman identified as Wilairat Channaul has not been located.

Thai nationals and their relatives in Turkey can contact the embassy in Ankara at +90 533-641-5698 for emergency assistance. The Department of Consular Affairs can also be contacted in Thailand via 02-572-8442 for assistance around the clock.

Rescue efforts continue seven days after the 7.8-magnitude temblor and powerful aftershocks struck despite the decreasing likelihood of finding survivors. To support that effort, Thailand has sent 42 members of its Urban Search and Rescue Thailand team and search dogs to Turkey.

The death toll in Turkey and Syria today climbed past 30,000 and is expected to rise much higher.

Last week, 28-year-old Chamaiporn Homsantia of Chaiyaphum province was found dead in the rubble in the port city of Iskenderun.
