Thai tourists in Shenzhen denied entry as Chinese government bans on-arrival visa

On-arrival visas for Thai tourists traveling to the Chinese city of Shenzhen have recently been discontinued by the Chinese government though they have yet to officially announced it.

Thais traveling to Shenzen should apply for their visa at the Chinese embassy in Bangkok.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman, Sek Wannamethee, visitors from Thailand, along with 11 other countries, will no longer be given on-arrival visas.

A number of tourists from Thailand were surprised by that news when they recently got off of planes in Shenzen and were denied visas. Several have filed complaints with the Thai consular office in Guangdong and the Thai embassy in Beijing in the past week citing they were not aware of the change, said Sek.

It was reported that complaints from Thai tourists led Thai officials to promptly contact Shenzhen immigration office where they were given the information that on-arrival visa have been discontinued, reported Thai PBS.

Sek advised those who wished to enter Shenzhen to apply for a visa at the Chinese embassy in Bangkok to ensure their entry into the country will not be denied.

No details have emerged about when Chinese officials plan to make an official announcement that on-arrival visas to Shenzhen have been revoked for Thai tourists.
