A 19-year-old Thai woman died in a Tokyo hospital room yesterday, less than a day after being discovered naked and unconscious inside one of the Japanese capital’s so-called love hotels, according to reports in local media there.
Today, Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to local outlet Matichon that the young Thai national, whose name has been not released, had indeed died in Japan, and her family had been notified.
The ministry is now awaiting results of an autopsy.
According to Japan Today, an employee of the hotel located near JR Uguisudani Station called the police after they heard a man and woman arguing and the woman’s scream later emanating from a room on the fifth floor at about 8:30pm local time on Tuesday.
When police knocked on the door, a man inside told them to wait, but when officers finally entered the room, they discovered the suspect had jumped from the window.
The woman had bruises across her face and body, suggesting she had been severely beaten. She died Wednesday afternoon at the hospital, according to NHK News Web.
No name has yet been released for the suspect, who is only being identified as a 20-year-old Japanese university student. After suffering bone fracture to his skulls following his five-story fall, he remains unconscious at the hospital.
According to police, the victim arrived in Japan on Dec. 5. Her tourist visa would have ended today.
