As four-year-old mixed breed Pandy was being walked in the snow, she ran away from her walker when something, probably the mounting snow and winds, scared her and she ran.

Pandy ran as far as 40 blocks until she reached the Lincoln Tunnel, where it was very likely she would get hit by speeding traffic in the tight tunnel. However, lucky Pandy was saved by tunnel police officers, who got hold of the leash she was still wearing.

According on one of the rescuing officers, Emanuel Luongo, “She was very scared, very wet, cold…and Officer Steve Corrigan was able to come up from behind as I distracted her and I was able grab the leash.”

“It’s a feel-good story,” Corrigan said. “You know, the dog was rescued from Thailand and then again it got saved over here,” reported CBS Local News in New York.

Because Pandy was fit with a microchip, she was able to be returned to Animal Haven shelter in New York, where she is living and waiting for her “forever home.”  She is ready to be adopted.

It was said that the dog was rescued from the illegal dog meat trade.
