Thai scientist cites late King as inspiration after winning 2016 ASEAN-US Science Prize for Women

Thai scientist Worajit Settaphak has been honored with the 2016 ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women. When she learned of her impressive win, she said that she was inspired by the tireless work of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and UL, an international defense science organization, selected Worajit as the 2016 recipient for her research in sustainable energy.

Worajit was chosen from 60 nominees from throughout ASEAN. She remarked that her success was inspired by the tireless development worked carried out by the late King, who directly inspired her and her team to develop a “Green City” concept to serve as a center of learning for communities seeking to live more sustainably, reported Thai News Bureau.

Worajit is a Dean of Economic and Technological Development in Asia at Chiang Mai Rajabhat University. Her portfolio focuses on low cost energy sources and sustainable solutions for small or remote communities.
