Want to send a parcel? Be prepared to show your papers, as now Thailand’s postal service is now tracking its packages – and their senders.
Thailand Post yesterday started demanding identification from customers presenting parcels for shipment.
Ostensibly to deter delivery of illicit substances, the new rule requires senders of all types of packages to present their National ID cards or passport to comply with drug-suppression policies from the Prime Minister’s Office.
If you fail to present a valid ID, your package will be refused.
The policy identifies shipping services as being subject to follow the policy by recording the identities of all customers.
For its part, Thailand Post repeated that drugs are illegal, drugs are bad, and therefore drugs cannot be sent through the mail. If detected in any package, the items may be confiscated for use as evidence in criminal proceedings actions against the sender.
