The Department of Environment today announced increased efforts to tighten monitoring of Bangkok’s public parks in response to what they say is a growing problem: public sex.

Director Wullaya Wattanarat explained her new plan will require all officials to fill out a written report of every park inspection, install more CCTV cameras — particularly in sex-friendly nooks and crannies — and add more bilingual signs throughout the city’s 37 parks warning both Thais and foreigners to refrain from park-based hanky panky.

This new policy piggybacks on a lively, on-going social media discussion regarding multiple instances of public fornification that have recently been reported.

Perhaps the most high-profile one surfaced last Tuesday when a jogger took to Twitter to claim he had run into an orgy at Lumpini Park, a major green space in the middle of Bangkok.

“I saw people standing in groups, and I thought they were playing Pokémon Go, but when I looked closely. Damn! It’s an outdoor jerking-off fest,” user @jiji_winkieboy wrote, before adding that he had declined the friendly offer of a blowjob.

We’re going to take a second to point out here that Winkieboy *ahem* offered zero proof of this encounter.

That said, several other netizens quickly chimed in to say that they, too, have come across exposed penises at Lumpini Park.

Phutthamonthon Park outside Bangkok, meanwhile, is infamous for being a hook-up spot for suburbans. A park janitor told Sanook that an average of 10-30 used condoms are discovered DAILY — to say nothing of poop-stained tissues, abandoned underwear and other curious miscellaneous leftovers.

In today’s announcement, Wullaya further stated that all instances of public love-making will be processed as criminal cases and encouraged all citizens to think carefully about one’s cultural values and traditions before acting.
