A model in Bangkok has gone viral thanks to a Facebook post in which she expressed her love for her boyfriend of five years — a moto-taxi driver who earns roughly THB500 (US$15) a day.
The love story of 22-year-old Nutchanart Chaichan and boyfriend Wutthichai Saeng-ngern, 25, blew up yesterday after finding its way onto popular Facebook page YouLike.
“Why did I choose this man? Although we are different in every way, what we have in common is our love for each other,” Nutchanart wrote.
“Whatever you eat, I’ll eat. Wherever you go, I’ll go,” she wrote, directly addressing her boyfriend. “For us, you’ve taken every job offered to you. You never complain that you’re tired. When I’m with you, I’m happy.”
Nutchanart, who has endured teased over the relationship, wrote that people should not be so quick to make judgements based on nothing more than a bank statement.
“Our love has blossomed in the past 5 years. Please don’t think less of a man who works for a few coins. Both of us have worked so hard together. We’ve earned everything we have.”
With moto-taxi fares starting at just THB10 (US$0.30) a trip, a few coins is often exactly what Wutthichai is working for.
In a broadcast interview, Nutchanart said she did not expect her story to go viral. The pair met in 2013 in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, where they grew up, before deciding to move to Bangkok together, Amarin TV reported.
Wutthichai told the outlet that he and Nutchanart started off selling clothes and shoes in the Ramkhamhaeng area, but the business didn’t work out. Before he started driving a moto-taxi and she found her first modeling jobs, they were essentially starving together.
Now Wutthichai said he typically earns THB15,000 (US$500) a month, and Nutchanart said they’ve gathered some savings together.
“I’m not ashamed at all. He’s doing good, honest work,” Nutchanart said.
The couple said they would like to settle down and have children together in the near future.
