Thai man shoots older Brit boyfriend in Pattaya

Jealousy born of a cross-cultural, May-November romance led to British man being shot yesterday afternoon by his Thai boyfriend in South Pattaya.

Tiradet Kaklong, 33, confessed to shooting 67-year-old boyfriend Colin Gardiner in the neck on the ground floor of his apartment in South Pattaya, police said.

Tiradet fled the scene and was arrested later with a .38-caliber handgun police say he used to shoot Gardiner.

An apartment staff member only identified as “Jantra,” told police Tiradet just moved in two days earlier, and his English boyfriend was seen visiting frequently, but said they only talked on the ground floor and never went up to his room. Around 3pm yesterday, she heard the couple arguing followed by two gunshots.

Tiradet admitted to the police Gardiner frequently criticized his drinking, smoking and partying. Gardiner’s jealousy drove Tiradet to lose his temper, police said.

Gardiner is currently in critical condition after losing a considerable amount of blood from the wound in his neck.

Tiradet has been charged for attempted murder. However, the charge might be elevated depending whether Gardiner doesn’t survive, Pattaya One and Sanook reported.
