To go down in the history of crime and what men have done to get away with it, a Thai man will face an arrest after he set fire to his debtee’s house and live-streamed the whole act on Facebook.
Police in northeastern Buriram province are gathering evidence against Facebook user “Top Howdy,” now identified as Arthit Jakkhum, and are requesting a warrant to arrest him after the owner of the house filed a complaint today.
In a video posted on Saturday, Arthit lit fire to a piece of paper and set it against a wooden house. He said, “I’m burning down your house. You don’t give me my money back.”
Hat Po-ngern, the owner of the house, said that his son had borrowed THB10,000 cash from Arthit but offered to repay the debt by tapping rubber for him.
However, Hat said he was not sure if his son had yet fulfilled his promise.
On Facebook, Arthit wrote in a public post last night that he just set fire to the house to “tease his friend,” or the debtee.
“I was drunk, and I love my friend very much. I’m sorry for setting a bad example,” he wrote.
“I wanted you to know I’m sorry and understand that I really needed the money.”
Luckily, only part of a wall caught on fire, and no one was injured.
Pol. Col. Sampat Srichanthuek, of Khaen Dong police, said today that he has instructed the officers to gather evidence, question witnesses, and requested a warrant to arrest him, Post Today reported.
If found guilty for arson (duh), Arthit would face a penalty of five to twenty years in prison.
