This afternoon, police arrested 23-year-old Jirawat Jittimanasatcha, a supercar blogger and admin of the “Life of Cars BKK” Facebook and Youtube pages, for illegally racing cars and posting a video of it on the web.
Jirawat’s obsession with expensive vehicles has turned him into a something of an internet idol, with about 125,000 subscribers on Youtube and 34,000 likes on Facebook.
But while his fans may find his lifestyle exhilarating, that’s certainly not a sentiment shared by everybody in Bangkok.
As reported by Khaosod, Pol.Col. Nithithon Chintakanont, Deputy commissioner for the Traffic Police Division (TPD) explained during a press conference today that many civilians have complained about the disruptive luxury car races that occurred regularly on Bangkok’s Si Rat – Udon Ratthaya expressway.
Pol.Col. Nithithon said it wasn’t hard for authorities to track down Jirawat and two of his unidentified racing friends, thanks to the video his social media profiles.
Virality is a double edge sword, huh guys?
“I want to tell the [supercar racing] group… that there are many other activities that you can do that actually benefit society such as donating to charities in rural areas or making merit,” said Pol.Col. Nithithon.
“You don’t have to be a nuisance to society.”
Jirawat and his two friends have all been charged with illegal racing, a crime which is punishable by a fine of anywhere from THB2,000 (US$60) to THB10,000 (about US$300) and/or up to three years of imprisonment.
