Thai LINE Sticker ‘Tidlom’ wins second place at Asean Character Award 2016

The popular LINE stickers “Tidlom The Sky Hanger” — featuring a beloved animated buffalo in a traditional loincloth — have just won second place at the Asean Character Awards 2016, organized by the Asean-Japan Centre.

Tidlom is a Thai  water buffalo whose dream is to one day fly and take a journey where he  propels himself through the sky.

Tidlom was created by Thai artist Sanya Lertprasertpakorn, who is the principal designer of Zylostudio.

According to Sanya, while Tidlom does represent Thainess, his look is still international and simple. It can appeal to both a Thai audience and an international audience, reported Bangkok Post.

Sanya said that, “having the award is like we have been certified by an institute that our character is qualified and it’s a positive for our portfolio.”

It will surely be a strong business opportunity for Zylostudio. They have continuously updated the Tidlom character over the past two years. With the increase in recognition and popularity, they will likely be able to expand and diversify to other media outlets such as online cartoons and co-branding with other products.

While the grand prize went to Origanimals, by Giggle Garage Animations in Malaysia, all winning teams were offered an opportunity to present their work and their team at the Tokyo Game Show 2016 in Makuhari Messe, which took place last week.

The Asean Character Awards were created to bring attention to creative talents hidden in Asean countries that aren’t well known in Japan.

It was established by the Asean-Centre, LLP Asean Creative Supporters, and a part of the Asean Creative Network that seeks to match Japanese content-creation companies with their counterparts in Asean member states.
