With the emerging popularity of smartphones and mobile data transmission, the amount of internet users in Thailand is expected to increase to 52 million this year.
According to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) minister Gp Capt Anudith Nakornthap, the growing popularity of lower-priced smartphones and tablets has led a proliferation in the number of Thai internet users. Last year, the country had 26 million internet users, a number that represents roughly 37% of the total population. Within the next year, the ICT expects this number to double.
Smartphones, tablets and notebooks, have surpassed desktop computers in terms of their popularity amongst the Thai public, the Bangkok Post reported.
