Thai golf prodigy to play Chiang Mai Open

The world’s youngest ever player to win a golf tournament, 14-year-old Phachara Khongwatmai, tees off at the Singha Chiang Mai Open today.

Pachara Khongwatmai won the Singha Hua Hin Open last month on the ASEAN PGA Tour by four-strokes with a final round four-under-par score of 67.

After two practice days on the Chiang Mai course, Phachara, who drives 280 yards on average, said he could reach the green in two at each par-five hole.

Asked whether he would turn pro after the tournament, he said: “I am not sure yet”

To win his second title in a row, Phachara must beat a field which features veterans such as Prayad Marksaeng, Chawalit Plaphol and Chapchai Nirat.

The Singha Chiang Mai Open is held at Mae Jo Golf Club and Resort.
