The long-term Thai girlfriend of Vernon Unsworth, a hero diver heavily involved in the Thai cave rescue, found the accusation by Elon Musk that her boyfriend had a child bride in Chiang Rai to be “laughable,” she told Coconuts today.
Woranan Ratrawiphukkun, Unsworth’s girlfriend of seven years, brushed aside the pedophile allegation made by the Tesla tycoon in a series of emails sent to news outlet Buzzfeed recently.
“I suggest that you call people you know in Thailand, find out what’s actually going on and stop defending child rapists, you fucking asshole,” Musk wrote to Buzzfeed, in response to their inquiries about a potential defamation lawsuit Unsworth’s lawyer floated at the time of the original accusations.
“He’s an old, single white guy from England who’s been traveling to or living in Thailand for 30 to 40 years, mostly Pattaya Beach, until moving to Chiang Rai for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time,” he wrote.
Asked if the allegation is true, Woranan, whose social media profile showed several photos of her and the British diver, told Coconuts: “The news about him being married to a 12-year-old child is laughable. As of now, everything will proceed according to the law.”
“Vern is a kind person. He rarely has an argument with anyone, and everybody loves Vern. We’ve spent our life together for seven years — he’s a good man and such a gentleman. He thinks of others before himself,” Woranan said of Unsworth, who played a major role in linking the Thai government with the three British dive experts that ended up discovering the 13 soccer players first.
What does Woranan have to say to Elon Musk? Nothing.
“I cannot comment further. I don’t have anything to say to him [Musk]. I know what kind of person Vern is. If he wasn’t a good man, we wouldn’t still be together after all these seven years,” she said.
Asked about the legal procedure, Woranan wrote to our female reporter: “I have no details. I’ll have to wait until Vern gets here. If your husband was accused of this, would you sue?”
