After being released from 11 months in prison yesterday, former Thai-Dutch TV star Amelia Jacobs this morning opened up about her experience at a press conference, where she vowed to never do drugs again.
The 29-year-old actress — known for her starring role on the Channel 7 drama Monkey’s Daughter — and her boyfriend Punyawat Hirantecha, 41, were busted at their Bangkok home with 70 grams of crystal meth and 16 tablets of ecstasy on Sept. 19, 2017.
The actress was handed a three-month suspended jail term and 24 hours of community service yesterday after the court dropped charges of drugs possession with intent to sell.
“I know I’m not a good person,” Jacobs said this morning, according to Daily News. “I admit to using, but I’ve never dealt … I was led astray by my curiosity to try the drug. I don’t blame anyone because it was my own decision.”
Jacobs’ lawyer, Sitra Biabangkert, stood by his client’s claim that she never took part in the drug-dealing of her boyfriend, who was sentenced to a whopping 25 years and four months in prison.
“After this conference, Amy [Jacobs] will report to the Department of Probation,” explained Sitra. “She will not appear on any talk shows or anything. She will now dedicate her life to social work, teaching the youth to steer clear from drugs.”
As to her experience in prison, Jacobs claimed she was extremely stressed in the initial period.
“The 11 months I spent in the prison consisted only of eating and sleeping,” she recalled. “I cried a lot at first, but I then realized that tears wouldn’t help me get out of there. I calmed myself by praying.”
“I promise I’m not going to mess with drugs again. All I have from it is regret.”
Jacobs plans to return to Phuket to live with her parents and does not have plan to return to show business any time soon.
Meanwhile, Jacobs’ mother stated that she will “never let her [daughter] live alone again.”
