Former TV star Amelia Jacobs joined a nunnery yesterday after spending 11 months in prison.

The 29-year-old said via her lawyer, Sitra Biabangkert, that she decided to become a nun to atone for the trouble she caused to her parents, and she’d like to ask for forgiveness from those she had done wrong.

Her lawyer released footage of Jacobs’ ordination, which occurred in Prachinburi province yesterday. Sitra withheld the name of the temple for the actress’ privacy.

On Sept. 19, 2017, Jacobs and her boyfriend Punyawat Hirantecha, 41, were busted in their Bangkok home with 70 grams of crystal meth and 16 tablets of ecstasy. When police stormed the premises, the actress was allegedly in the act of consuming some of the narcotics, according to The Nation.

She was charged with drugs possession with intent to sell and drugs use. Because she didn’t post bail, she spent 11 months in jail waiting for her trial.

When her trial finally took place, Jacobs denied her involvement in the drug trade. However, her boyfriend pleaded guilty to the same charge Jacobs faced and was sentenced to a whopping 25 years and four months in prison, along with a fine of THB750,000 (about US$23,000).

Luckily for her, the court dropped the possession with intent to sell charge against her and she was only sentenced to a three-month suspended jail term and 24 hours of community service for drug use.

Sitra said Jacobs doesn’t know when she’ll leave the nunnery yet.

Best known for her starring role in TV drama Thida Wanorn, which translates to “Monkey’s Daughter,” Jacobs also won Miss Teen Thailand in 2006.
