A nail salon owner in Nakhon Ratchasima province came forward yesterday with a case of “dab and dash,” accusing a Thai college student of evading payment after having her nails done. And if it turns out similar complaints from other stores in the same mall are true, we might have a serial offender on our hands.

In CCTV footage posted to Facebook, the mystery woman can be seen getting her nails done at the Nail House shop in The Mall Nakhon Ratchasima on Wednesday night, before getting up and strolling out without paying.

According to salon owner Salakjit Jitdamrongwiwat, the student told the manicurist she “forgot her wallet at home” and had to go borrow money from her boyfriend, saying she’d be back to pay THB900 (US$30) that she owed, reported Sanook.

Salakjit believed the young woman since this was her second time at the salon and she had paid on her first visit.

This time, however, she did not return.

After talking to several other shop owners in the mall, Salakjit claimed that this is not a one-off occurrence. The young woman has allegedly done a runner at numerous other businesses including restaurants, clothing stores, other nail salons, and even taxis in the area.

That was enough for Salakjit, who this morning filed a police report.

“Even though it’s not a lot of money, we have to do the right thing,” she wrote on Facebook. “Don’t let criminals get away.”

Police are currently tracking down the college student to bring her for questioning.
