Thai Airways president makes statement about THB21 million Hawaii Flight

Thai Airways president Charamporn Jotikasthiramade made a statement yesterday that the shocking price of the flight for 38 officials to fly to Hawaii was simply a quoted price, not the actual price of the flight.

He noted that the price was quoted by the airline to the prime minister’s secretary-general for the chartered flight that would take General Prawit Wongsuwan’s entourage to Hawaii for a meeting with U.S. military officials.

He said that the actual price of the flight would be delivered once the trip was completed.

No word on whether a final cost has been delivered but, the thing about estimates is that they are supposed to be pretty close to the actual price, aren’t they?

In reference to the on-board food and drink for trip, which supposedly cost THB600,000, Charamporn said that the airline simply proposed menus that are part of their standard premium-grade service.

Because it was a long flight, more than 12 hours each way, the president noted that there were four meals and snacks needed for each person for each journey, reported Thai PBS.

But, really, the total cost of that was THB600,000?

Charamporn has said that the airline will cooperate with the Office of the Auditor-General in an investigation. He claims that Thai Airways observed transparency and has not broken any laws.
