A 17-year-old proved she was more than her name by winning at the Taekwondo World Championship in Chelyabinsk, Russia, yesterday.
“Tennis,” or Panipak Wongpattanakit, beat Ukraine’s Iryna Romoldanova 6-5 in the women’s 46-kilogram and brought home a gold medal.
Tennis became the fourth Thai athlete to win the world title after Rangsiya Nisaisom, Chatchawal Kaola-or and Chanatip Sonkam.
Meanwhile Chanatip, who previously won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, fell short in this competition as she lost to Monaco and Peru and did reach the semi-finals, Matichon reported.
