Kaew, the 7-year-old female bear in the viral attack video, was taken away from the temple she lived at for the safety of the public yesterday.

In a video that made headlines internationally, Kaew, a bear kept at Phetchabun’s Laung Pu Laimai temple, is seen dragging a man into her cage while other locals screamed and desperately yelled the bear’s name in an attempt to halt the attack.

Kaew was shot with tranquilizers before being taken away to the Khao Kho Captive Breeding Center in the province. Once she’s completed a habitat adjustment program, she will be released back into the wild, according to Bangkok Post.

The man, identified as Fon Promlat, 38, was reportedly drunk and attempting to pet the bear, so she snatched him by his wrist and dragged him into her enclosure, according to his uncle.

Fon has over 20 wounds all over his body, with a the most severe being on the left side of his body, where the bear was biting him.

His lungs were torn by the bear’s claws. The man is in the close watch of doctors at Phetchabun Hospital, INN News reported.
