One by one, spike-covered bombs plunge from a lethal height toward the head of a woman who, at the last second, whips a sheet out to catch the falling fruit.
Welcome to the breathtaking world of durian harvesting.
In a Thai TikTok making the rounds this morning, a group’s impressive high-altitude teamwork is demonstrated along with its precision catching skills.
Filmed in Chumphon province between the calloused feet of a man high up a durian tree, the video shows their mad method of cutting the fruit free before taking aim and dropping them – bombs away.
The video has found sudden popularity after it was posted two weeks ago by Sutthipat Suren, the extraordinary durian catcher.
It’s Sutthipat who, armed with only a sack, catches the fruit with extreme accuracy, without even flinching as the heavily armored fruit hurtles toward her.
While their training and experience won admiration across the internet, the tabloid media were fixated on flesh other than dank durian meat: Sutthipat, the durian catcher, who turns out to be a teen girl. Her TikTok account is filled with videos showing off her based durian snatching.
As of noon Monday, the video has been watched more than 13 million times.
