Teacher accused of cutting kindergartener’s ear with ruler

A Mae Hong Sorn teacher recently denied accusations she cut a 4-year-old student’s ear with a steel ruler in front of the entire class as a punishment.

A teacher of Mae Yuan Municipal School says she left the class to the bathroom and when she came back, the student’s ear was already bleeding, school Principal Praenapa Thamniamton  told parents yesterday.

The boy had to receive five stitches. All of his kindergarten classmates, however, insisted the teacher hurt him.

Although the boy’s guardians said they won’t press charges, over 60 concerned guardians have demanded the school investigate the incident and fire the teacher.

The teacher has been working at the school for two years but is still under probation. The school has twice received complaints about her violent punishment methods, according to a statement from Praenapa.

A committee to investigate the incident has been appointed. For now, the teacher has been relocated to work at a different government venue ‒ a post office, state media reported.
