The Ministry of Transport has approved an increase in taxi fares that will go into effect the day after the fare hike announcement is published in The Royal Gazette.

According to the new fare guidelines, passengers will have to pay THB40 for the first two kilometers instead of the current THB35. Other charges will include THB6 per kilometer after the first two and up to the 10th. After that, it will be THB10 per kilometer, reported Thai PBS.

When taxis are caught in traffic and don’t move more than six kilometers per hour, the charge will be THB1 per minute of sitting in stopped traffic.
