A taxi driver was stabbed over THB400 in a cash robbery by two boys, aged 13 and 14, on Sukhumvit Soi 62 Sunday night.
Cabbie Charin Samket, 38, who survived the stabbing, said he picked up the teen passengers from Theparak Intersection in Samut Prakarn, but after arriving at Sukhumvit Soi 62, one of the boys cut him in the left side of his neck and demanded that Charin, “hand over all of his money.”
Threatened with a knife, Charin emptied his pockets and handed the boys THB400 in cash, but they demanded his taxi key and threatened to cut him again.
Charin pulled the key from the starter and tried to escape. One of the boys attempted to stab his neck again, but missed and the blade went into the cabbie’s shoulder.
Charin opened the door and yelled out for help, so the teens escaped towards the top of the soi. They were shortly seized by soldiers who were patrolling the area.
Charin was sent to the hospital, where he is recovering from the injuries.
According to the officers, the teens confessed to the crime and admitted that they were planning to use the money to party.
However, this is not the first time that the taxi driver has run into trouble in his career as a taxi driver. Four years prior, in 2012, he was wrongly convicted and charged with robbing a passenger. After spending nine days in jail, police finally caught the real perpetrator and Chanrit was released.
The two teens will be questioned further by social workers and they will be sent to a youth detention center, Nation TV reported.
