A TV executive and soap director said he and his teen daughter had their lives threatened by a taxi driver in the middle of Sukhumvit and fleeced of THB1,000 cash.
Thakolkiat Veerawan, an executive at One channel of GMM, was seen in a video being forced by a taxi driver to do an apologetic wai, after the TV executive allegedly hit the taxi with his hand when it didn’t accept him and his daughter near Sukhumvit Soi 33.
The video was reportedly filmed by a street vendor in the area.
In the clip, which has received over a million views, the taxi driver demands THB1,000 cash from Thakolkiat in compensation for hitting his car.
Taxi driver: “Why did you hit my car?”
Thakolkiart: “You didn’t stop!”
Taxi driver: “Give me a wai. You hit my car! Don’t you love your stuff too? Now give me THB1,000.”
Fearing for his daughter’s life, Thakolkiat paid up as the taxi driver walked away and said, “Don’t do it again.”
The videographer approached Thakolkiat, asking why he agreed to give the driver his money. The TV boss then said to the camera that the driver threatened to shoot him.
“He threatened to shoot us. I had to preserve my life and my daughter’s,” Thakolkiat said.
The Land Transport Department has instructed the taxi driver in the video, identified as Roongnakhon Dullakul, to report to them this afternoon.
