A cabbie was found dead inside his pink taxi, which was dumped in a fish pond in Samutprakarn last night in what the police believed to be an attempted robbery, according to police radio JS100.
The driver, who was not identified, was shot in the head. Residents in the area helped to pull him out of the water, but he was already dead.
The owner of the fish pond, Apiwat Petchnoi, told the police that the pink taxi pulled up near his pond but he thought nothing of it, until he heard the gunshot go off.
He turned just in time to see the pink taxi driving at full speed into the fish pond and the passenger, a man wearing black, run away.
Police believe that the passenger pulled a gun out to threaten the driver, but when the cabbie resisted, he was shot.
Witnesses said that after the perpetrator allegedly shot the taxi driver, he used the same gun to rob a Pakistani ice-cream vendor of his motorbike and used that to flee the scene.
Bang Phli police will track the perpetrator from city surveillance cameras, Now 26 reported.
