Police this morning said that they have identified the woman whose dismembered remains were discovered in different Bangkok waterways.
Maj. Gen. Ekkachai Boonwisut, commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau Division 7, said that the body parts found in the Bangkok Noi and Bangkok Yai canals belonged to 28-year-old Maneerat Chajokphap.
Investigators initially could not determine the woman’s age or nationality from the recovered remains, which included her head, torso, and legs. But Ekkachai confirmed that a yant tattoo on her back helped identify Maneerat.
A relative told police that Maneerat had been missing two days. Her latest Facebook post on Sunday read, “One day, you’ll miss me.”
Police believe that the woman was murdered before her body was dismembered and dumped in the Chao Phraya River.
Bangkok Noi Police Station are conducting the investigation because the first remains were discovered in its territory.
