TAT looks familiar: Tourism authority picks 3 photos stolen from their own website as finalists in photo contest

A few people who entered the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) amateur photo contest are either brilliant or completely dense. In a hilarious move, three of the photos chosen as finalists in their contest are pictures that were pulled right off of the TAT’s own website!

The rules for the photo contest stated that photos needed to be taken in Phrae or Nan provinces in the month of June or July of this year. The top 30 photos would go to the final round. After announcing the finalists, it was quickly pointed out that three of the pictures were from the TAT website gotravelphoto.com, which has been shut down since the controversy, reported Daily News.

The TAT had to quickly disqualify the offending photos on Friday. They included a close-up shot of a plant, a shot of people at the Nam Wa River and a third unidentified shot.

Some contest entrants wondered about corruption and asked online who those pictures were selected. We think the good people of the TAT just happen to always like happy flower pictures.

However, later on Monday, TAT released a statement that they decided to cancel the whole contest to “avoid any suspicions which stemmed from any mistakes” and apologized to the people who submitted the photos.
