The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has issued guidelines for foreign tourists planning to visit the country during the period of national mourning.
Though it’s not compulsory for foreign visitors to wear mourning clothes, the TAT advises them to dress and behave cautiously while in public places as a gesture of respect to the Thai people who are grieving for their beloved monarch.
Tourist attractions remain open as usual except the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha where the funeral rites for HM the King are taking place. Entertainment venues such as bars and nightclubs have been asked to consider their operation during this period. The decision can be made by individual operators, reported National News Bureau.
Most traditional and cultural events will take place as usual but activities may be adjusted in conformity with the current situation or may be held as a tribute to HM the King. The services of public transport, banks, hospitals and other institutions are still available as usual.
