Tallest man in world dies

Pornchai Saosri, believed to be the tallest man in the world at 269 centimeters tall, has sadly passed away at the age of 26.

His family confirmed he died at his home in Surin province around 10am on Monday, after years of suffering from various illnesses related to his height, including high blood pressure.

Pornchai’s parents and their 15-year-old granddaughter were taking care of the gentle giant after he became bedridden and unable to stand up, the Bangkok Post reported.

Nicknamed Oaf, Pornchai was the youngest of two children, and was reported to be of normal height until he hit 16 and continued growing.

He was not officially named the world’s tallest man, who according to the Guinness Book of Records is Sultan Kosen from Turkey, recorded as being 251 centimeters in 2011.

Pornchai’s mother said she would put donations from well-wishers towards funeral costs.
