Swensen’s speaks out after photos of famous dog licking ice cream spoon went viral

Ice-cream franchise Swensen’s has responded to the controversy regarding a dog lady who brought her famous Chihuahua to one of their shops and let her pooch eat ice cream from a spoon reserved for human customers.

The pet instagram account “Yuta Family” was the source of much conversation this week when the owner of the account posted a photo of one of her famous pets, her brown Chihuahua “Nami.” The little pooch was enjoying mango ice cream from a Swensen’s spoon.

The Yuta Family Instagram account tells the visual story of a family of seven Chihuahuas bossed around by a fluffy cat. It made headlines earlier this year and has become a world-famous pet Instagram account.

The San Francisco-based ice cream franchise informed its customers via Facebook last night that every container and utensil is cleaned and sterilized by procedures that meet food safety standards.

“If such incidents happen, we will dispose of the containers and utensils. We have instructed our staff to strictly prohibit customers from bringing pets into the shop,” said the statement.

Pets are prohibited from most Thai restaurants and convenience stores. Yet, from time to time, some owner decides that people won’t mind if their excited furry friends go around, licking snacks in a convenience store.

Stray dogs and cats, however, have silently taken over 7-Elevens and become a normal sight in convenience stores around Thailand. Pro tip: Stay snoozy and don’t take snacks unless offered.
