Bangkok’s fitness industry is becoming more exciting by the month, with more and more gyms offering a more diverse range of workouts across the city.
The latest to join the functional training movement that’s proving so popular in the city is New Moves, which recently opened its doors.

If the thought of sprinting on a treadmill and staring at a digital display puts you off heading to the gym, New Moves might prove to be more exciting. Based on the second floor of the Maneeya Centre, the bright gym, overlooking Ploenchit Road below, doesn’t have a single machine inside. Instead, all treadmills and weights machines are replaced with fitness toys, including Kettlebells, resistance bands, Vipr, monkey bars, clubbells (weights shaped like baseball bats), battle ropes and Gibbon slacklines (low tightropes). The gym will also offer a weights section for those who want to do some more serious lifting.

Members are encouraged to come and have a play or, if you’re clueless as to where to start, the gym also offers classes – and there’s none of your usual legs, bums and tums classes. Instead, members will be challenged with classes such as ‘Core off the Floor’, an abs workout without tedious crunches and planking, ‘Pretty Woman’, a women’s only class and the ‘Lunchbreak Blaster’, a 35 minute total body workout for those who are strapped for time.
