Suthep to leave monkhood tomorrow

Sort-of-former politician Suthep Thaugsuban will be back in the game tomorrow, according to his brother.

Suthep, who in name led protests which provoked the removal of Thailand’s elected government, will leave the monkhood to lead a foundation to push for “reforms,” Shane Thaugsuban said of the former Democrat Party member.

With his foundation, Suthep said he will first set up the first vocational college on Koh Samui and support elderly villagers in his original constituency of Surat Thani province, Thai PBS reported.

The former Democrat secretary-general led protests against the government of former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra for six months. After the military seized power, he retreated in July 2014 into the monkhood in Surat Thani.
