Suspect in Songkran murder caught in Lat Krabang

Police yesterday arrested a suspect in the rape-murderer during Songkran of a 48-year-old woman in the capital’s Lat Krabang district.

Sathit Janthorn, 22, reportedly confessed to assaulting the victim on the night of April 18 as she was walking home alone along Soi Chalong Krung 54. He said he was drunk when he attacked her alongside the road.

Sathit said he then murdered the victim to conceal his crime. He apologized to her relatives at the police press conference yesterday.

Police tracked him down to his home nearby on Soi Chalong Krung 53. They said he attempted to flee when officers approached.

Police found scratches on his neck, face and arm, along with a Nokia mobile phone said to belong to the victim in his possession.

The family of the victim received THB100,000 compensation from the Rights and Liberties Protection Department, Thairath reported.
