A father and son made a very lucky escape—they were miraculously uninjured when an 18-wheeler fell from the elevated road above them onto their truck last night.

In the pouring rain, Natthapon Klasamer, 34, was driving home in his Isuzu pickup truck with his 13-year-old son. Just when he made a U-turn under the elevated Kanchanaphisek Ring Road, he heard a loud crash.

Natthapon looked up to see something you hope to only ever see in the movies—an 18-wheel tractor-trailer about to fall onto his pickup. He made the split-second decision to accelerate to try and dodge it. It was a smart move since the massive cargo truck ended up landing on the bed of his truck instead of the cab, leaving him and his son in the cap uninjured.

And the driver of the 18-wheeler? He crawled out of his truck and apologized to the father and son. Identified as Surachai Rungreung, 26, the driver said the road was “slippery.” He was sent to Phyathai Nawamin Hospital.

Surachai added he didn’t think he’d survive. He believed he got lucky because of the Buddha necklace he was wearing, Daily News reported.

It was reported that the 18-wheel truck collided with other vehicles on the elevated road, causing it to fall off.

Surachai  was charged with reckless driving. For further investigation, the police are reviewing the expressway CCTV and interrogating more witnesses.
