A pounding dawn deluge turned many capital roads into shallow canals this morning, making a watery hell for rush-hour commuters – and more is on the way.

By 7am, minor flooding had hit districts including Wattana, Khlong Toei, Pathum Wan, and Huai Khwang, snarling traffic and causing numerous accidents. There were no reported fatalities.

In the hardest-hit areas, 65 millimeters to 83 millimeters of rain fell.

Heavy rain forecast for tomorrow will lose force during the week before building back into a whole lot of wet starting Thursday evening. Rain doesn’t mean a break from the heat, though: The capital will see lows of about 24C and highs of up to 36C.

Nationwide, storms are expected to lash the north and south through Wednesday, driven by a strengthened southwest monsoon moving across gulf and sea.

If your corner of the world turns into a disaster movie scene, be a traffic hero and report it 24/7 to the Bangkok Flood Control Center at 02-248-5115.
