It’s summertime, and the livin’s easy, especially for infectious bacteria.
Health officials are warning people to be mindful of five diseases that spread more easily during the summer months: diarrhea, food poisoning, dysentery, cholera and typhoid.
In the past three months two people have died of 281,467 diagnosed with the “five deadly summer diseases.”
Hot weather is a happy time for bacteria, said Dr. Sophon Mekathon of the Dept. of Disease Control.
Diarrhea is the most widespread, with 253,967 – mostly infants and elderly – affected, according to the department, with 484 cases of dysentery, 343 cases of typhoid and one case of cholera reported.
As rabies and heat stroke also spike during the summer, Sophon said folks should drink enough water and not let their pets lick them if they have any scratches on their skin, Thai PBS reported.
