Suk San National Thai Language Day!

Sawasdee tuk kon, today is National Thai Language Day.

July 29 commemorates the day His Majesty the King privately visited Chulalongkorn University in 1962 to join a panel on problems with using Thai words. In 1999, on the occasion of the King’s 72nd birthday anniversary, the Government proclaimed July 29 the National Thai Language Day.

The National Thai Language Day has been observed so as to encourage Thai people to use correct pronunciations and minimize mixing foreign words when speaking Thai, an action called in Thai as poot tai kam ang-grit kam (Speak one Thai word, one English word).

This year, Google has joined in celebrating this occasion by using a special doodle featuring two animals used in Thai alphabet books: chicken as in kor kai (ก) and monkey as in lor ling (ล).

And Coconuts would like to celebrate this occasion as well by sharing once again the alphabet reciting video of the cutest half-Thai toddler, Dylan Hall. In retrospect, this video we shared earlier this year only vamped up few thousand views on YouTube. But now, the “Hardcore Kor Kai” video attracted over 7 million views.

Enjoy reciting Thai alphabets with Dylan, and suk san wan paa saa tai haeng chaat! (Happy National Thai Language Day!)
