Stunning photos of shark fin trade prompts discussion of art and conservation Friday

After the fully conscious sharks’ fins are sawed off, the animals are usually thrown back into the sea where they sink uncontrollably to painfully drown and die.

Stunning images which capture the enormity of the cruel harvest of shark fins will be the topic of a discussion and exhibition Friday evening at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand.

Shark Fin: Photo-journalism, Art, and Marine Conservation presents how photojournalism and art influence conservation efforts. This exhibition features photographs from Paul Hilton and Jirayu Ekkual. A panel discussion will be hosted by Al Jazeera journalist Veronica Pedrosa, joined by representatives from the Ocean Artists Society and Fin Free Thailand’s Seamus McCaffery.
