About one hundred students, teachers and parents from Taweethapisek School in Bangkok marched to the Ministry of Education to ask that an investigation be conducted on the school’s principal Somkiet Chareonchim.

A student representative claimed that the students and their teachers could not accept Somkiet’s style of management. According to his critics, Somkiet simply ignored many of the school’s major issues like drug use. He also had not justified a recent increase in tuition rates, students said.

Somkiet, who was absent from Bangkok because he was performing official duties in Chonburi, said he had sent his vice-principal to talk with the students about the issues that bothered them. He added that when he heard that the students had marched to the ministry, he rushed back to the city.

“I stand by my truthful, disciplined management style and I am open for inspection,” Somkiet said. “The students have the right to protest against me and I will not hold a grudge. For the teachers who participated, I would have to see whether their intentions are against the bureaucracy. I personally feel sorry for the incident since Taweethapisek School has always had a good reputation, which should not be ruined by a sad case like this.”

The Minister of Education Chaturon Chaisand said the students did not have any evidence, but that an examination of the principal would definitely be performed, Manager reported
