Student gunplay leaves one dead after Monday brawl

Police arrested a student yesterday for shooting another student near the Rama IX intersection at a brawl that left one dead.

The 18-year-old suspect, identified only as Mote, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm after a clash between rival tech school students erupted into gunplay  Monday, leaving another 18-year-old with a gunshot wound.

Police said Mote admitted to shooting “Bodee-Aek”, a student from a rival vocational school, but claimed it was self-defense after Mote tried to stab him.

The brawl erupted Monday at the entrance of Soi Sor Kiatichai on Asoke Din Daeng Road in Din Daeng district. About 30 students were involded, with three students badly hurt and another one student was dead by having knifed at the Rajavithi Hospital.

Bodee-Aek, who is recovering from a bullet wound, will also be charged for stabbing another student, police said.

Police said they were able to identify Mote using surveillance footage, ThaiPBS reported.
