Sticker War: Line users in Thailand download 500 million sticker sets

If you like to have long conversations that consist of nothing but stickers, then Line app in Thailand is for you. Thais are fluent is sticker talk and have downloaded stickers to convey almost every possible emotion or situation.

According to data released by Line Thailand, Thai account holders have downloaded 500 million sticker sets since the app launched about five years ago. There are about 33 million account holders in Thailand.

The data breaks down sticker usage further by explaining that the average user has downloaded about 15 sticker sets, some that are free and some that cost a small sum, reported Bangkok Post.

The company only sees the sticker trade and demand growing. As the premier chatting app in the country, Line has partnered with over 100,000 artists to create stickers and they plan to work with 50,000 more by the end of this year.

Stickers are categorized in five ways. They can be still images, moving images with audio, images that pop-up, and those that include 8-second music snippets. Thailand is the second country in the Line empire to offer musical stickers.

The most popular sets by sales numbers are: Noo-Hin (animated with sound), Paopao Bangplee, Nong Mind Dukdik (version 3) , Pangpond (animated with sound) and GMM Hit Songs for Daily Life (musical).

Executives at Line even plan to promote “sticker artist” as a viable career option for students with art talents.
